This is based on the use of latex paint which is the most popular kind of paint an Oxford painter and decorator will use.
In general latex paint takes about 30-35 minutes to dry but factors can change this such as temperature in the room, colour of paint, type of paint and the humidity in the room. Also in which whay the Oxford painter applied the paint. Re-coating should take 4-5 hours for most latex products. Make sure you check the tin of paints label for manufacturer directions and make sure your Oxford painter decorator adhered to these directions.
It takes longer for darker colours to dry because the amount of colorant is more for dark colours and colorant consists of pigment and glycol which take longer to dry. Your oxford painter should bear this fact in mind!
Make sure your Oxford painter and decorator does not rush the paint job! Re-coating too fast and rolling into a paint which has not fully dried can cause problem that are difficult to amend. If paint is applied over a finish that is not yet dry the water in the product re-wets the base coat of the paint. The base coat will the re-activate and start to roll off the wall, resulting in a textured effect which will not look good. If this does happen it will mean your Oxford painter will have to sand down the wall and wait till the paint has dried so by rushing you will in fact make the job take longer.
In 2 weeks from the second coat being applied your paint should of fully hardened and achieve its maximum durability. You can now wash the wall if it’s a waterproof type of paint.
Please note Oil-based paints usually take longer to dry than latex paints. Ensure your Oxford painter decorator leaves at least 6 hours before applying the second coat of paint.
By making sure your Oxford painters follow these guidelines you will have a high finished room in about two weeks!

I always say quality takes time, it’s not about getting it done quickly, it’s about doing a good job. Don’t pay your painter by the hour, get a price for the job.
