Decorating Your Home Inexpensively

Sometimes it seems like the only rule to home decorating is “the more expensive, the better your taste.” Almost everybody forgets to pay attention to what they spend when they decorate-they get caught up in what they want to do. Try not to worry too much if you do not have a lot of money available for your decorating project-you can still have a beautiful home! Even if you don’t have a lot of money to spend you can still create a wonderful decorating scheme.

Don’t go too far too fast-keep to the simple stuff when you’re starting out. When you start decorating, start with a few pieces that you really like and then build the rest of your scheme around them. Don’t spend too quickly-save up for a while and buy one or two truly wonderful items that you really love.

Don’t be afraid of empty space. If you crowd your walls with paintings and prints it won’t be long before your home starts to feel crowded and cluttered-even when it is clean! Give your decorations space!

Using only selected pieces will help those pieces stand out more. This way the pieces you choose will be easier to spot and you’ll be able to truly appreciate them. Enjoying your decorating is hard to do when you’ve overdone it by filling every spare bit of a wall with decorative items. A little bare space is necessary in any decorating scheme. Great decorators the world over will tell you not to be afraid of leaving space empty.

Flickr and stock photo sites are great for photography fans who want to cheaply obtain photos to use for decorations. Most of the work uploaded to a site like Flickr is considered “open source” and is free to save on your hard drive and then have printed in larger scale either with your own printer or at a print shop. You could fill your home with beautiful photographs for little more than the cost of paper and ink. Why not print your own photos and use them? Finding affordable software that you can use to edit and enhance your photos is easy. Photo editing can be fun-almost as much fun as saving a ton of money!

You can also look at the classified section in your newspaper or at the Craigslist website for your local area to find great decorating deals. There is always someone selling decorations through the classifieds (online or off). Surfing through the classifieds or sites like Craigslist could help you decorate all the rooms in your home! Placing your own ad is a great way to save yourself some time and money-just list the things you want to find for your decorating project! That way people can come to you and you won’t have to waste your time looking through hundreds of ads trying to find a single item. Don’t forget to be careful! Be sure to look at each item you want to buy before actually giving the seller your money. You don’t need to spend a lot of money when you decorate-this is something that most people forget about. Decorating ideas are everywhere-just look at the homes of your friends. When you see a decorating scheme you like ask yourself “how can I recreate this for less money?” You’ll soon find that home decorating does not have to cost a lot of money. It is even possible to decorate without spending any money at all!
